Heliotrope is the self-proclaimed nickname of a French person named Hélène. She is me, although we sometimes disagree. I was (we were?) born in Paris in the early years of the Millenial generation, which means I nurture a love-hate relationship with the internet and a passion for flamingo pink, and can still sing practically any Nirvana, Oasis and NTM song par coeur

I like to call myself a punk, even though I grew up in one of Paris’s most chic neighborhoods and attended a strict Jesuit school. I am (we are?) also a complete romantic, and optimist. And I am aware that having a website is very un-punk, but, being a punk, I do not care.

Before getting my hands dirty with ceramics, I spent most of my working hours in front of computers, as a writer, publicist and translator for artists, arts centres and theatres. I had fun and met many wonderful people in London, where I lived for six years, New York, which I also called home for two years, and Paris. I am still in awe of all the art I experienced and worked on.

Since returning home, I became an English teacher, and a mother. My children, Céleste and Atlas, think the word for my work is cémarique. If you ever meet them, please don’t tell them they are mistaken. Doesn’t cemarics sound fun? Heliotrope thinks so, but not Hélène.
